Here is a picture of BC Hydro’s Hydracore down hole hammer machine. This machine was built at first for underground work. Later it was converted to a surface machine by lengthening the stroke and installing a Diesel engine in place of the electric motor. BC Hydro used it to drill anchor bolt holes for transmission towers on sites only accessible by helicopter. The contractor who had been doing this job had not been able to keep up with the other construction crews doing this work. With this machine BC Hydro’s own employees drilled all the holes very quickly and the anchor drilling became a part time job. This type of machine could easily be used for reverse circulation drilling at remote exploration sites. This machine is light and simple. No problems were encountered with the machine during the job.
